What Design Can Do Live!, 25 July 2022

The 10th edition of What Design Can Do (WDCD) Live was held on 3 June 2022 at the International Theater Amsterdam. WDCD organises events, design challenges and projects with the mission “to empower the global creative community to make a valuable contribution to solving the major problems of our time”. As well as other sessions, WDCD 2022 programme included circular design pioneers and creative visionaries around the 'gender, design and power' and 'decolonising design' sessions, which helped to create a conversation about rethinking design practice. Unlike most institutions, WDCD has been carrying out events and programmes on social and environmental impacts of design since 2011. For those who could not attend the event, its YouTube channel provides a great source of impact-driven design content. I believe that it is crucial to share such content in order to enhance the visibility of projects and creatives focusing on the social and environmental aspects of design. You can access the talks from here.

MA Graduation Exhibition of St. Joost School of Art & Design, 4 July 2022

I am happy to visit ‘Now Show’, the MA graduation exhibition of St. Joost School of Art & Design. The Master Institute of Visual Cultures includes the programmes of the Visual Arts and Post-Contemporary Practice, Situated Design and Ecology Futures with an emphasis on the role of the artist and designer in society. The exhibition's curatorial statement has evolved around the notion of “in-between”. “In all distances, we seek affirmation in each other. We collapse and confide in one another, we find strength in entrustment and stand side by side in-between. With ourselves floating, we position our intersubjective works within this building that is in-between us, giving us a place to land together one last time before we lift off.” It was a great opportunity to explore mind, body, objects, and relationships through projects and think about the in-between personal and public. You can visit the MA works from here.
